First stop in AZ

Here we are at the Petrified Forest National Park. It also has the Painted Desert. It is a 28 mile drive but you can get out at scenic overlooks and they have different hiking trails. The colors were amazing: reds, whites, blues, grays, browns and blacks.

This is one of the petrified llogs. All of the trees that were there 200 million years ago were turned into stones. Some of them were huge!! The outside of a lot of them just looked back or brown but the inside werem quartz or ither stones and were white, red or other colors.

  1. Just gorgeous! Did you have a park ranger as a guide,or did you just walk around with a map?

  5. I posted a comment yesterday, but it looks like it didn't come through. I was looking at the drawings on the rocks and wondering if that was their way of letting the tribe know who was going to be in charge of the smoke signals. Ha, ha! The pictures of the Painted Desert are pretty.
